Seventeen Seventy

DAYS 29 TO 31

1770
Off again, this time to Seventeen Seventy.  This is a beautiful area.  Having a restful time, eating, kyaking, swimming, eating, catching up on blog, catching up on washing, catching up on eating (I think I've already said that), taking photo's, reading, etc...................... John & Graeme have explored on the kayaks.   Di and I went fishing yesterday and we caught 3 fish (which we shared for tea)  (we are all dieting)  and today I caught one flatie which I gave to Carol.  (she thought it was cute).

Just a hint

Just a hint.  If you want to see the photo's in a larger size you just double click on the photo and it will increase in size.

On to Rockhampton

DAY 28

Continuing down the coast.  Stopped in Rockhampton at Macca's for a coffee.  I think it was the worst coffee I have had (me who only started to drink coffee a couple of years ago).  Getting fussy in my old age.  Di and Graeme needed to get some supplies (at Bunnings) and then we stopped again at the Botanical Gardens for lunch.  I think we should call ourselves the "goumet travellers".

Left Rockhampton and moved onto Collipy Rest Area for the night. (Another freeby).  It was a beautiful camp site. Really spacious.  There were lots of vans already there but you weren't on top of anyone.  Was able to have another open fire.
Our camp site looking across the river (can see Carol's Kayak)

Back to Travelling

Day 27
After we had eaten
Well our rest period is over and we are on the road again.   Couldn't believe the temperature today.  Yesterday was about 26 degress this morning it is 15 degress, we are all freezing.  Stopped in Mackay Marina for morning tea, then continued onto Koumela for lunch ( if you blinked you would be through the town.

Our view from the caravan
From there it was full steam ahead to get to Clairview for the night.
Getting ready for tea
We wanted to get a spot in the FREE camping.  Arrived about 3.30pm and were lucky to get a spot.

Midge stil continuing

Looking down at beach from campsite

Where we went swimming
Went kayaking at Midge with Diane.  After our strenuious workout we decided to have a swim, the water was so warm.  Anyway next morning another camper was walking her dog down along the water (where we had been swimming) and there not far from her in the water was a 6 to 7 foot croc.  She quickly removed her dog from the water.  Needless to say Di and I didn't go back in for anymore swims.

Whitsunday's

Whitsunday

Looking down on Whitehaven Beach
Had a great day although Di and I had a bit of trouble when we were snorkelling.  We had decided to only wear a short wetsuit so every bit of skin that was showing was fair game for little things that bit you.  Not sure what they were, they looked like tiny jelly fish anyway after half an hour couldn't stand it any longer so had to get out of the water.

He was wondering why he couldn't see any
John had a good time looking for fish

Midge Point

DAY 23 TO 26

Bowan
Off to Bowan this morning.  Just called in for morning tea and so that Carol, Graeme and Di could have a look

Then off to Midge Point.  Decided to stay put for a few days.  Midge Point is about 40 mins from Airlie Beach so we thought we could just drive in for the day to go out on the reef.

Whitehaven Beach
Our day on the reef was just wonderful.  Sunny sky, beautiful blue water couldn't be better!

Moving on

DAY 22
Left this morning for Townsville stopping there for lunch and for catching up with friends from the Central Coast.  Pick up some supplies then off to some cheap camping for the night.  Saw a little place called "Funny Dunny Campsite"so thought we would give that a go.  It certainly was funny and a bit like a dunny.  Diane couldn't stop laughing it was sooooo rough.  Didn't think we would get in at first (part of a tree was across the road so you couldn't pass).  Someone came out and removed it, then we thought we wouldn't get out.    Some funny people camping there.
This was the boat
Decided to move onto a little fishing campsite called Molongoli Camp Site.   Great spot for a night.  Lots of cars with boat trailers, but we got a spot.   Went fishing that night but when I threw my line out it landed in a boat in the middle of the water and then I could get it out so had to cut the line off and re rig.

Next morning got up early and went fishing, and I caught a flathead. Decided to let it go as it wouldn't feed the five of us. (me of little faith)
hard to see my big fish

cont Hitchenbrook

Ramsay Bay

What a lovely day, There was a resort on the other side of the island but due to damage after the last cyclone it is no longer in operation.

After we go home John, Di & Graeme decided to go to "Dead Man Creek", unfortunately they had touble finding in.

We decided to buy our tea.  The people at the caravan park told us where the best fish was (I think they may have been on the payroll).  John ordered a piece of grilled barra.  Honestly, I think they thought we asked for a fish coctail as it was sooooooo small!

Looking for "Dead Man Creek"
Guess who found it?

Hitchenbrook Island

native life
DAY 21
Our private beach
Today we went to Hitchenbrook Island.  The morning started off extrenely foggy but when the fog lifted it turned into another beautiful day.  We were the only people on the cruise boat so it was great.  The trip took about 2 hours then we had about 1/2 walk to get to the other side of the island.  We were also the only ones on the beach.  It was like to stranded on a deserted Island.  They even packed us a picnic lunch (with smoked salmon).  Tried to get some photo's of the native inhabitants but they wouldn't keep still.

Cardwell
You thought I was finished.    No such luck.

Finished now ........talk to you tomorrow
Five Mile Water Hole

CARDWELL

DAY 20
Today we were going to go down close to Townsville but we got waylaid at Cardwell.  It is really lovely here.  We stopped just for a look and decided to stay a couple of days.  Went out to a waterhole (no croc's).  Got fish and chips for tea.  John only wanted a piece of grilled fish.  I think the shop keeper thought I said a grilled fish cocktail cause it was sooooooo small.   Got my first photo of a green tree frog.                                        Looks good doesn't it

Brampston Beach

DAY 19
Leaving Cape Tribulation today and heading down the coast.  I can't believe were making a move down south.  We have been without phone or internet contact for some time so this is being done in one hit.
Stayed the night at a beautiful little beach called Brampston Beach.  Only cost $16.50 for the night and the place even had a washing machine.  Rained during the night so it gave a bit of a wash down.  I have never seen so much dirt and dust in our poor little car.  If you sneezed you wouldn't be able to see where your going due to the dust haze.

Bloomfield Cont.

John wasn't quite quick enough(who would ever believe that.)  If anyone from the hospital is reading this blog I'm afraid you might have a handicapped maintenance man.

Bloomfielde Falls

Bloomfield Falls.
Waterfall
On our way back we called into Bloomfield falls.  Beautiful falls and a lovely big waterhole.  We thought it might be a great place for a swim.  So with feet paddling in the water we looked out and what do you think we saw........thats right a nice big croc sunning itself on a rock in the middle of  the waterhole.   Our feet came out of the water rather quickly.
